Your Trainer...(Adapt
,improvise and over come )
Oh boy, do these words ring true to my experiences
in herding and in life in general.. I have
written some of what it has taken to keep the website going over
the years. I can remember the days of
the Tandy computers with the floppy disk and very limited hard
drive space.
I remember Ed Faulk telling me once " they should be careful of
what they say (the computer manufacture ) their computers
can do because you will find a way of making the computers do
it. Each edition of Windows provided another learning curve and more
robust computers. Cameras went from film to digital to cell
phones. Pictures, videos and applications to deal with them keep
evolving.
All the while going from training and trialing my own dogs, (
Easy, Tess, Choice, Pic and now Sunny ) to establishing herding sites in
many communities , now down to one. Many of my students have
gone from student, graduating to trainers with their own
locations and herding trial judges. I sometimes in reflection
call it the Johnny Apple seed effect. Some have sinse died.
There have been periods of time when the written press and news
media have given us their attention, at other times the TV
industry have included us in their productions.
All this for 1 man and his dog desiring to share his calling to
bring the understanding between man and his domesticated animals,
to people without that exposure in their day-to-day life. In the
beginning I had no idea how much help it would bring to the
depth of the human condition. Today I am in awe at how much
personal growth it brings to some people and animals that they become involved with. This is my blessing and I
thank God for this calling!

Perspective Me...(Sciatica)
This condition came on suddenly around Thanksgiving2023 and has stayed
with me in varying degrees. Some recall seeing me out at class in a wheel
chair or using a walker. My current condition is
as normal as 76 year old dog trainer can be.
My current approach is to use acupuncture to correct the remaining pains/
disability
I am experiencing. Yes, my knee still doesn't like me but we are
learning to get along
.
Assisting the Trainer...
I at times use an assistant trainer
.
Often Kimberly and Mary help out with the other
task involved with caring for the sheep, setting
up for class to mention a few of the task
necessary to run the class. They also help me
with running the beginning folks with their dogs .
